History of General Electric (GE) dates back to 1876, when Thomas Edison created in his laboratory electric bulb. In 1890, it brings together all he owned enterprise into a single company, "Edison General Electric Company," and in 1892 organizes the merger with its direct competitor - the company "Thomson-Houston Company." Thus, on the market appears brand General Electric.
Still under the brand GE are producing those kinds of products, production of which began Edison: lighting equipment, vehicles, industrial products, power transmission equipment, and medical devices. In 1890, at the plant in Fort Wayne were produced the first electric fans under the brand GE Appliances. Thomas Edison's experiments, conducted them in 1893 with a plastic filament, laid the foundation for the creation in 1930 of the first of GE plastics manufacturing. And in 1907, were developed a whole series of heating and cooking appliances.
At the beginning of the XX century in the United States originated aviation industry. In 1917, the government began to look for a company that could undertake the development of the first aircraft engine. This company became the General Electric Company. In 1942, GE launched its first jet engine and tested it. However, separation of GE Aircraft Engines officially appeared only in 1987, another branch of General Electric Company is GE Energy Jenbacher Division (Austria). Under the brand GE was manufactured gas engines and power plants. For 45 years of its existence, the company has installed more than 5000 CHP worldwide. Apart from the above, GE manufactures security systems, water treatment equipment, provides financial services to businesses and individuals. The basic principle of GE is the use of advanced technology in production.
Currently at General Electric, there are six departments, which are engaged in various spheres of activity. GE Commercial Finance provides financial services, including lending and insurance. GE Healthcare manufactures medical equipment and holds a leading position in the world market in this field. GE Industrial provides plastics, household appliances, lighting equipment and maintenance.
